Hailing from country Western Australia, Lachlann Lawton is an award winning lyric baritone of Australian/British decent. During 2024 and 2025, Lachlann was a member of the Young Artist Programme at Opera Queensland. His roles there included Aeneas (cover) and Sailor in Dido and Aeneas, Guglielmo (cover) in Cosi fan tutte and Marcello (cover) in La Boheme. Lachlann is also a former Wesfarmers Arts Young Artist, Bendat Scholarship winner and proud recipient of the Roberts Emerging Artist Fund at West Australian Opera (WAO). His roles at WAO include Elijah (staged) in Elijah, Duke Robert (English) in Iolanta, Silvio (cover) in Pagliacci, Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Count Almaviva (Cover) in Le nozze di Figaro, Sciarrone in Tosca, Barone Douphol (cover) and Marchese d’Obiney in La Traviata, Escamillo (cover) and Morales in Carmen, Cinderella’s Prince and The Wolf in Into The Woods for which he was nominated for a Performing Arts WA Award, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance and Prince Yamadori in Madame Butterfly.
Lachlann was a 2022 and 2024 finalist for the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award, where he was awarded the Finalist Prize and the John Wegner Award. He was also a 2024 Herald Sun Aria semi-finalist.
In 2024, Lachlann had notable company debuts with Opera Queensland as the Sailor and member of the ensemble in Dido and Aeneas in collaboration with CIRCA, and with Victorian Opera as Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd. He reprised this role for Victorian Opera in 2025 on their tour to Dubai in collaboration with Dubai Opera.
He is a recent member of the St Georges Cathedral Consort under the baton of Dr Joseph Nolan. During his time there he was a regular bass soloist, performing works such as Faure’s Requiem, Durufle’s Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs.
Lachlann completed a Master of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, England) as a Waverly Scholarship recipient under the tutelage of Quentin Hayes. During his time there, he was a finalist for the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the singing of Strauss and performed several roles. These included Escamillo (English) in Carmen, Peter (English) in Hansel and Gretel, Gianni Schicchi (cover) and Marco in Gianni Schicchi and the Pilgrim in The Pilgrims Progress by Vaughan Williams. Whilst at the RNCM, Lachlann was a member of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's chorus for the Edinburgh International Festival in Wagner’s Gotterdammerung, which was in collaboration with the Royal Scottish Orchestra under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis. He also was a member of the RNCM choir for Berlioz's Grande messe des morts, performed by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Edward Gardner in Bergen, Norway.
Prior to this, Lachlann completed a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma of Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) under the tutelage of Patricia Price and Michael Lewis. Upon graduating, he received the top performance mark for his cohort. Whilst at WAAPA, Lachlann was given many opportunities to perform. These included Peter (English) in Hansel and Gretel, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sid in Albert Herring and Friedrich Bhear in Little Women by Adamo.
Lachlann also has a passion for sports, physical fitness and elite performance. He gained a Cert 3 and 4 in Personal Training from the Australian Institute of Personal Training in 2021, and has many years of experience as a group fitness trainer at Body Fit Training (BFT), most notably in Morley, Perth.
